The seasons are a-changing, nights are drawing in and I’ve already seen comments about needing a jacket to ride at the weekend! We’re heading for a period of beautiful weather for riding our bikes, so let’s make the most of it! However, this also means that we have reverted to our 8 am start time for the rides at Zube, the Hump Day ride and the Coffee Ride effective October 1.
The club’s volunteerism was on full show on Wednesday September 28, when about fifteen members helped at the Barnyard Buddies day for children with disabilities at Waller County Fairgrounds. This was a big event, with able-bodied young people from local schools helping many less fortunate young people have a great day petting animals, making art and riding carousels and slides. NWCC was a small part of a very well organized and joyful day and we were delighted to present a cheque for $500 to the charity. We’ll be there next year too, and we hope we can have more members attend this wonderful event!
Talking of volunteering, the Zube rides are going well and gaining more attendees on a weekly basis. We have resumed bringing a small amount of food and drink for after-ride gatherings, but we need volunteers to keep the system rolling. It’s an easy thing to do, just use your own cooler, buy a dozen or so bottles of water, a dozen small gatorades, some bananas and cookies then submit your receipt(s) to treasurer@nwcc.bike. The sign-up for it is here:

We also need No Drop group leaders at Zube. It’s an ideal opportunity for anyone who has graduated from the No Drop ride to faster groups to give a little back, share experience and coach the less-experienced riders. It’s open to any member who would like to help, too. The No Drop ride is an important part of our club and we do need to support it. Here’s the link:

Our next club meeting will be held at Senate Avenue on SUNDAY October 9 at 3 pm. The usual deal applies: we’ll buy you a beer and some snacks, and we promise that there’s no “Death by PowerPoint” – we’re social!
Finally, we’re coming up to the time to nominate and vote on the four elected Board positions, President, VP, Secretary and Treasurer. Nominations are submitted in October for voting in November. More on that to come soon.
Be safe, everyone!
