NWCC Is Putting On a Race!

2020 and 2021 have been tough years for all of our NWCC supported cycling events, and while we are still hopeful we will be able to schedule some kind of replacement ride for the BBX and KFC later this year, in the meantime we ARE putting on an event in May!

If you’ve ever thought about racing at all, or just like to try and push yourself to new distance goals, then the Texas Ultra Spirit is meant for you! Ultra cycling events are nothing like the mass start road races and crits you might associated with bike racing. Instead, they are solo events, where it’s just you versus the clock to see just how many miles you can ride before the timer elapses!

There is no drafting, and no riding with anyone other than short intervals when passing or being passed. The course is about 7.5 miles long, full of rolling hills and not much traffic.

There are also a lot of categories to choose from depending on your abilities. Yes, there’s the 24 hour solo category for the truly hardcore distance folks, but there’s also 12 hour and 6 hour events that aren’t quite so daunting. There’s even a shorter race called the Spirit that’s only 4 laps, 31 miles total!

There are also team categories, so you and a few of your friends can take turns out on the course in the 24, 12 or 6 hour events. Your team and your crew will set up along the quaint Fayetteville town square.

Because this is a smaller event, and won’t have large groups congregating in one place or indoors, we feel we can safely put it on without putting our participants and volunteers in harms way. We have made some modifications in that there will not be a post race indoor meal, but rather food boxes to take with you. We’ll do the podiums outside as well!

If you’ve raced with us before, we hope to see you out again!

Lucky you, as an NWCC member you are also entitled to a discount on the registration fee! Just enter TUSNWCC at checkout on the BikeReg site to obtain the discount.

If you have any questions about the event, or about Ultracycling in general, please reach out to Dave Harman, He is reachable on messenger or facebook most of the time! Look out for volunteer requests coming soon as well!
