The Northwest Cycling Club (NWCC) mission is to encourage and support recreational and competitive cycling activities, educate cyclists in the different areas of the sport of cycling, educate and promote safe cycling practices, encourage and support public cycling facilities and programs, such as bike paths, bike trails, educational courses and the Alkek Velodrome.

The 2023 Bluebonnet Express
The 32nd annual Bluebonnet Express will be held on April 23, 2023 and will start from the Waller ISD Football Stadium in Waller, Texas, approximately 40 miles northwest of Houston.
This fully supported ride is one of the Houston area’s oldest rides and Is presented by Northwest Cycling Club. Three different distances/routes will be offered, heading south of Waller, and then turning north going into Montgomery County and finally turning south heading back to the stadium. The routes this year are brand new and are 95% on back country roads, staying off most of the busier FM roads in Waller County. Cyclist can expect mostly flat sections and some gentle rollers. This fully supported ride is only one week away from the MS 150 making it an excellent training opportunity. The Bluebonnet Express is a MS 150 Recommended Ride.

The 2023 Katy Flatland Century
The 2023 Katy Flatland Century bike ride will be held on Sunday July 16, 2023. The starting point is Royal High School located at 34499 Royal Road, Brookshire, TX 77423.
This fully supported ride is one of the Houston area’s oldest rides and is presented by Northwest Cycling Club. Four different distances/routes are offered, including a 24 mile route, a 54 mile route, a 68 mile route, and a 100 mile century route. This fully supported ride is one of the areas favorite rides.

Bike Night at Circuit of the Americas
Returning March 7th
Cruise COTA’s famed stars and stripes in a stress-free environment without the worry of city traffic while admiring fantastic sunset views of COTA’s signature Observation Deck and Austin skyline. After the evening ride concludes, cyclists can replenish and recharge with an ice-cold drink, mouth-watering refreshments and great conversations and camaraderie with fellow riders.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids.

Don’t Forget Your Texas MS 150 Bike Inspection
Ensure your bike is in the best shape for the Texas MS 150! Take your bike and cycling shoes to one of the Texas MS 150 Bike Store Sponsors for a professional bike safety inspection.
Pass the safety inspection and receive a sticker to display on your bike to be eligible for FREE labor if you need repairs event weekend (parts and materials extra).

Just Ride for a Just Cause
Saturday March 25
If you’re looking for a well supported ride in Late March, here’s one you should consider. Just Ride for a Just Cause, a MS150 recommended ride, is holding their 9th annual ride out of Simonton on Saturday, March 25th. The ride raises funds to help support victims of sex trafficking.

Presentation to Wendy Larsen for Race Across the West
At the NWCC Club Meeting on February 7, 2023, during which the 2023 Budget was rolled out to those in attendance, a presentation was made to member Wendy Larsen who is racing in the Race Across the West in June. The donation of $500 will help Wendy cover some of the costs for her support team. She is screening potential crew persons, with priority for a woman with ultra or cycling experience. Good luck, Wendy!

NWCC is a major organization in our local cycling community, so I humbly invite you to support our upcoming ride! Registration is now open for Fort Bend Education Foundation’s 20th Annual Zuhnë Education Expedition Bike Ride on April 1, 2023.
The Education Expedition promises to provide a quality ride whether you are training or just wanting a great day with friends. Riders have the option of four routes ranging from 32 to 83 miles long, all designed to minimize busy intersections while providing a smooth and scenic ride. Rest Stops are themed and staffed by students and teachers from our FBISD high schools vying for the “Best Rest Stop” award. You will be entertained along the ride! Stay and enjoy a scrumptious lunch after the ride. SAG wagons and motorcycle support will be on the course to assist with any needs. This is one ride you won’t want to miss.

Please consider volunteering to take a turn at providing the refreshments for the Zube Saturday moring rides. You will need to submit your expenses to NWCC treasurer at treasurer@nwcc.bike to be reimbursed. Click the button below to get the details and to pick a Saturday to sign up for.
Zube Ride No Drop Leaders
The club is seeking No Drop Leaders for the Saturday Zube Ride. The No Drop Leader is responsible for leading the No Drop Group on the 25-mile route to the gas station and back, making sure no rider is dropped from the group, and offering advice and care to all riders.

On November 10th at 6:30pm during the weekly junior training session the normal workout was interrupted as Coach Carl and those present took a zoom call from USAC during which Carl Jones was awarded the USAC Junior Coach of the Year award for 2022! Something anyone who knows him will fully acknowledge that he deserves!
