The first NWCC bake sale at Zube was a huge success today, raising well over $700! Thank you, Chris Francis Satterfield for helping organize and run this event! I could not have done it without you.

Thank you to all who donated the goodies: Amy Smith with her apple hand pies; Barbara Wu with the power cookies; Chris Francis Satterfield with the energy bites, cranberry scones, and cowboy cookies; Geoff Donnelly with the oatmeal cookies (via Lynne Donnelly); Janet Vrasic with the doggie treats, pickle pops, and vegan chocolate chip cookies; and Craig Twete with the white chocolate macademia cookies and chocolate chip cookies.

And a special thanks to the riders who came out and generously supported our fundraiser. You are what makes this club a great community!

Palmer Elementary Bike Bus - Thursday May 7

Today, the Palmer Elementary Family officially joined schools across the country for National Bike & Roll to School Day — and our community absolutely CRUSHED IT.
What started as an idea turned into 75+ people involved this morning between riders, walkers, volunteers, ride leaders, sweeps, crossing support, community partners, cheering neighbors, and families.
And somehow… after watching the weather all week… the rain held off just long enough for our Bears to roll into school together. 🙌
We had helmets checked, bikes inspected, kids gaining confidence, parents riding alongside their children, neighbors cheering from sidewalks, and an entire community showing what’s possible when people come together for kids.
From the pedestrian bridge at Parks Edge through Community Park, down Glenn Lakes and Crow Valley, all the way to Palmer — the energy was unreal.
This was more than just a ride to school.
It was community.
It was joy.
It was safety.
It was independence.
It was memories our kids will never forget.

Thank you from the Palmer Bears!

Hello friends! I am Amber Dooley, VP of Programs for Palmer Elementary PTO. From the bike fit checks and safety tips to helping riders feel confident, organized, and ready to roll, your support made a huge difference this morning. You didn’t just help us put bikes on the road, you all helped create a safe, fun, confidence-building experience for our Palmer Bears and families. All of your members were just absolutely incredible, NWCC was so helpful, and the entire cycling community showed exactly what it looks like when experienced riders show up for kids, safety, and community.
We are so grateful for your time, your knowledge, your patience, and your encouragement. This morning was better because of you. 💙
Thank you for helping our Bears roll safely, confidently, and proudly! 🚲🐻 Happy Walk, Bike & Roll to School Days!

The Great Cycle Challenge - Saturday, September 20

Photos courtesy Brent Neal & Sabrina Strawn

Today a bunch of cyclists rode together at Russ Poppe Family Park for NWCC's Great Cycle Challenge Event. Our club is raising money to help fight children's cancer by riding throughout the month of September, and we thought it would be fun to have a big, picnic-style event and ride a bunch of miles together. So we set a goal of 500 miles for today, unsure of how many people would participate or how far they'd be willing to ride on a short, continuous loop. We also had a dollar-for-mile match up to 500 miles, and so we really wanted to reach that distance.
The goal was SMASHED. We used clipboards and had everyone write their miles as they finished riding (easier than hoping to find everyone's Strava accounts) and the total was 1,265 miles! My personal goal today was to come home heavier than when I started because of all the baked goods and treats everyone brought to the picnic. Despite eating *at least* ten of Barbara's cookies, some bananas, a pastry, some oranges, three gels, more cookies, and downing two Cokes I still lost some weight on the course. I'll try harder next time!

With that dollar-for-mile match NWCC has already raised over $9,000 to aid research and help fight pediatric cancer, and there are still ten days to go. Right now we are the second-highest fundraiser in the Cycling Club category nation-wide, and we are first in overall miles for September. Thank you so much to everyone who came to ride today, to those who brought treats, and especially to the NWCC Board, specifically Troy Ottmer and Sabrina Strawn, for making today happen.

If you want to donate to the cause, visit the NWCC team page here: https://greatcyclechallenge.com/Teams/NWCC

And keep an eye out, because next up NWCC is battling Alzheimer's with the Walk and Ride to End Alzheimer's coming up soon.
