Texas Hell Week

Come to Texas Hell Week in Fredericksburg, Texas on March 24th-30th, 2024 for a week of epic rides, cycling seminars, friends, and fun, culminating with the Stampede 200 and Longhorn 500.

Texas Hell Week has been an early season tradition since 1991. The Texas Hill Country offers some of the best Spring riding in America. The seven counties south of the Colorado River offer nearly 1,000 miles of paved roads with little or no traffic. From mid-March to mid-April, the wild flowers are in bloom making for an unforgettable riding experience. Texas Hell Week offers three rides daily, approximately 30-50 miles, 50-80 miles and 60-100 miles over seven days. Every ride is different. Participants can ride as much as they want. Each day will conclude with a social happy hour and three days will include a post-ride informational seminar.

The Stampede 200 will take place on March 30th with a course featuring two loops with rolling hills through ranch and farm lands. The total distance is 200.7 miles, with an elevation gain of 10,359 feet. There are three aid stations on a two-loop course. This double-century is the perfect challenge for those looking to make the jump from century ride or Gran Fondo to something more ambitious.

The Longhorn 500 also starts on March 30th, and is geared towards those wanting to take on their first ultra-race or qualify for Race Across America. The 503-mile course features four loops characterized by steep climbs and river crossings, as well as rolling hills through the farm and ranch lands that are the best of Texas Hill Country.

Full details and registration information can be found at www.texashellweek.com.

Members of Northwest Cycling Club can receive 10% off the entry fee for 2024. Email president@NWCC.bike to request the code.

Suzannah Smiles – SB 250

This is the 10th year undertaking this event – in the past 9 years almost 500 cyclists have completed the trek collectively raising $194,500 in the first 8 years for Spina Bifida Texas.

Spina Bifida Texas is a very special charity to my family and I. They were a wealth of information when our daughter, Suzannah, was born with Spina Bifida 17 years ago. Through this organization we have learned how to help Suzannah live her life to the very fullest.

We have met excellent doctors and surgeons, connected with other families and networked with people that coach and organize athletic events for people with physical disabilities.

Be a part of a truly memorable ride, at the same time raising awareness and funds for such a deserving cause. – Casey Swanson

2024 Big Dam Bridge Challenge!!!!!

We had a respectable showing of participants from the club for this years event, but we had some competition from a rival club from Memphis, named Victory Cycles. They had a large group, probably over 40 riders attend this years ride. Their tent was next to ours and they cheered their riders as they cross the finish line. We did the 50 mile route this year with a few exceptions as other members did the 75 mile course.

I am challenging club members to attend next year and do the 75 mile course. Yes, it is difficult as you climb the big mountain on that course, but if we train for it, nothing is impossible. So sign up here and lets have a large group from Houston to rival Victory Cycles next year.

If you feel the 75 is a bit much that’s OK too, just come and have a great time with fellow club members. We had a blast riding together and eating out as a group in Little Rock. So I encourage all NWCC members to join in on the fun and be apart of the training as we get ready for next year. If you have not done this ride, it should be on your bucket list of rides to do. It certainly is one of my favorites. Respond back to Carl Grasshoff if you want to join us.
