Rolls from Hockley Community Center (HCC) at 7.30 am for distances between 25 and 45 miles, depending on who is riding.
Depending on numbers, we will split into separate speed and distance groups, so that we can cater for all. The route depends on who’s in the group and on the wind direction. Riders should be able to average at least 13 mph for 25 miles.
All are welcome, club members or just club curious, come on out and see what we are all about! Great place for new riders, folks ramping back up, looking for some social fun, pretty much anybody welcome on this one. There will always be someone ready to ride with you, no matter your skill level or pace. You won’t be left behind!
And come for a coffee or, sometimes, a beer and a bite with us afterwards!

Start time is 7.30 am. THIS IS A RAIN OR SHINE RIDE – We will cancel only if there are thunderstorms or worse happening at ride start time. We will communicate that on our social media pages and the website if it becomes necessary to cancel.
The Zube Park rides are a great way to check out the club before you join. That’s because you don’t need to be a club member to come along for the ride.
We will have four official group rides leaving from Zube. Each group will have designated leaders from club membership, and our rides will roll out separately from the other groups that leave from Zube park–NWCC rides meet in the back lot (look for the NWCC flag). Riders are expected to abide by all traffic laws, wear a helmet, and refrain from using headphones/earbuds.
- The No/Low Drop Group with an approximate 13mph/21kph rolling average (which may vary based on wind, group, etc) that will ride a distance of roughly 25 miles/40 kilometers.
- This group is new-rider friendly, and teaches and reinforces group-riding skills, safety, and etiquette.
- The route may vary, but the common route for this ride can be seen here: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/66473025
- This ride leaders will be announced on the day.
- The 14-16 mph Group expects riders to have basic, requisite group riding skills (know how to ride safely in a pace line, communicate, rotate off the front, etc.) and most commonly rides a route that is slightly over 40 miles/64 km.
- The route: https://www.strava.com/routes/2733723585511596190
- The ride leaders will be announced on the day.
- This is NOT a no drop ride; riders are expected to be able to maintain the group pace or they will be dropped, and riders off the front will not be chased (the group does stop for mechanicals flats).
- The 16-18mph Group has the same expectations as the 14-16mph Group but is designed as a bridge up to the faster group.
- The route is as above.
- Ride leaders will be announced on the day.
- This is NOT a no drop ride; riders are expected to be able to maintain the group pace or they will be dropped, and riders off the front will not be chased (the group does stop for mechanicals flats).
- The 18-20 mph Group has the same expectations as the 16-18 mph Group, but is slightly faster. They also commonly ride the same standard route.
- This ride leaders will be announced on the day.
- This is NOT a no drop ride; riders are expected to be able to maintain the group pace or they will be dropped, and riders off the front will not be chased (the group does stop for mechanicals flats).
- The 20-22 mph Group has the same expectations as the 18-20 mph Group, but is slightly faster. They also commonly ride the same standard route.

Event Details
This is a social, no-drop¹ group ride that takes place mostly on residential and suburban roads. The ride will have a casual pace so that riders can enjoy conversing, but to do any form of group riding you should be able to pace yourself at least around 12-14 mph / 19-23 kmh. If you’re slower than that, just let us know–no big deal. This ride will likely fall somewhere between a 12-16 mph average depending on the group.
The ride will generally be 17-20 miles (approximately), and we stop somewhere near the middle of the ride for a coffee break at Just Love Coffee² on the corner of Shaw and Sunset Canyon (usually around 11 or 12 miles into the ride). If you don’t want coffee or refreshments there, that’s fine, but we’ll stop long enough for those who want coffee to finish the cup and we’ll all hang out and be social for a mid-ride break. They do have some outdoor seating and a bike stand out front, although not enough for everyone if others are using it.
There are no restrooms open at Wildwood Elementary where we’ll begin, but the coffee shop where we’ll eventually take a mid-ride break is only a few hundred meters north of the school and is open before we roll out.
Helmets are required. You don’t need to be on a specific type of bike, so long as you can ride safely and keep with the group. New riders in the club, even those new to group riding, are welcome.
You can see an example of the approximate route on this Strava activity from when we were piloting the ride: https://www.strava.com/activities/5102341162
Questions? Reach out to Brent Neal, Chris Green, or James Monroig.
¹ What does “no-drop” mean? The group or ride leader will not leave anyone behind, whether it is because the rider is struggling with pace (can’t keep up), has a flat tire, or anything else. We’ll wait up and make sure that everyone rides together.

NWCC has again been asked to support this great cause for the Waller County Fair.
Last year we had over 20 volunteers who came out to help some disadvantaged kids have a great time. This year’s event will be held on October 4th from 8:30 am to 1 pm. Everyone who participated last year had a great time and the support was greatly appreciated by the Fair Association.
Lets get behind this great cause again this year and support the community and the kids.
Contact Carl Grasshoff if you can volunteer again this year, and if you are new, you are in for a real treat.

Start time is 8.00 am.

Rolls from Hockley Community Center (HCC) at 8.00 am for distances between 25 and 45 miles, depending on who is riding.

Start time is 8.00 am.

- The 16-18mph Group has the same expectations as the 14-16mph Group but is designed as a bridge up to the faster group.
- The route is as above.
