NWCC Mountain Bike Sunday, Double Lake Recreation Area, Coldspring, TX
DETAILS
- Meet at 8:15 AM, and we’ll determine our route based on group interest and ability
- We typically ride two laps, with a stop back at our cars to refuel in between (or to stop riding), with options to make each lap ~5, ~8, ~12, or ~15 miles
- Ride only if trails are open according to trail system Facebook page/ trail steward & weather is good/ location may change week-of depending which on trail system status
- Venue info: $7 day-use fee per vehicle (up to 5 people), cash only/ exact change required https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/texas/recarea/?recid=30286
- Ensure that you have enough water and food for before, during, and after the ride (BYO)
- Feel free to bring a camp chair & lunch to hang out after
Safety guidelines:
– Ride at your own risk, and a helmet is mandatory
– Please have a trail map (check venue website/ download via App “MTB Project” or TrailForks, etc.)
– Do not ride muddy trails nor leave ruts in the trails
– Warn of oncoming riders (yield to those climbing uphill)/ yield to hikers & alert of the # behind you or “clear back/ last one” as courtesy
Additional driving instructions to meetup spot:
– Use google maps to go to: https://goo.gl/maps/i9MCE4mKVaYvvRWg9 (we park near the restrooms & shower house)
– (From Hwy 59 in Cleveland, take FM 2025 North 17 miles and turn right at Double Lake)
– From I-45, exit at New Waverly, take SH 150 East 25 mi., take FM 2025 S ½ mile, turn left at Double Lake)
– Upon entering Double Lake Recreation Area, proceed to the ranger station, which you’ll see to the right
– There’s a self-serve envelope pay system (bring a pen), in which you fill out your vehicle information, put $7 into an envelope and deposit in the metal post, and keep the stub to display on your windshield
– After paying, proceed down the road ~0.5 mi, and take the first left
– Proceed to the end of the road ~1 mi and park in the small lot/ gravel lot at the end
– Facilities (restroom/ shower) are typically available at the end of the gravel lot

You are responsible for evaluating road and trail conditions in accordance with your individual level of experience, skill, tolerance for cycling in traffic, weather, time of day, obstacles, road condition and other factors when evaluating or selecting a route. NWCC and its officers disclaim any responsibility for any issues that may arise and in no event shall be liable for any damages or loss of any kind.
DOs
- Helmets are required.
- Obey all traffic signals.
- Ride predictably and smoothly.
- Call out all hazards.
- Use hand signals and call out your intentions, when you are turning, slowing, and stopping.
- When passing other riders and groups, pass on the left and always call out “on your left.”
DON’TS
- No earbuds, headphones, speakers or phone usage while cycling in any pace group.
- No overlapping wheels.
